Bhutan Airlines & Bhutan Airports
1.Paro – Thimphu / 50 km, about 1 hour 30 minutes’ driving
There are only two airlines operating flights to/in Bhutan, namely Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines. Druk Air, also called Royal Bhutan Airlines, is the flag carrier directly under the charge of the Bhutan government. Headquartered in the western dzongkhag of Paro, it has offices in Thimphu, Jakar and Gelephu as well. Operating a modest scheduled flight network within the South Asian region to its base at Paro, Diruk Air holds an important status in the transportation of Bhutan. Bhutan Airlines is the first and only private airline in Bhutan. It has an office in Thimphu.
There are four airports now, including Paro International Airport in Paro, Bathpalathang Airport in Jakar, Yongphulla Airport in Trashigang and Gelephu Airport in Gelephu. Currently, the first three airports are operational and interconnected, and Paro Airport is the sole international airport serving flights to Nepal, India, Singapore, Bangladesh and Thailand. Located in a deep valley with surrounding peaks as high as 5,500m (18,000ft) on the bank of Paro Chhu River, Paro Airport is considered one of the world’s most challenging airports. Flights to and from Paro are allowed under visual meteorological conditions only and are restricted to daylight hours from sunrise to sunset. Before 2011, Paro Airport was the Bhutan’s solo airport. With the construction of later airport, the journeys to central Bhutan and eastern Bhutan become much easier.

How to Plan Your Bhutan Tour
A Bhutan trip usually starts from Paro where the Bhutan’s only international airport is located in, then travel eastward to Thimphu and Punakha, which is the most classic itinerary in Bhutan, taking 5~6 days to finish. Never miss the icon of Bhutan - Tiger’s Nest (the symbol of Bhutan) in Paro. If your time is quite limited, you can skip Punakha. If you want an in-depth Bhutan tour, we suggest you extend your trip to Phobjikha, Gangtey, Trongsa and Bumthang in central Bhutan, which costs you about 9~10 days. You can also spend more time in Bhutan to explore more features of Bhutan, such as trekking, birding, Tshechu festival, etc. It is strongly recommended to travel Bhutan with Nepal.
